Making a comeback with The Big Year

Myles moved to Germany. Brandon moved 2 miles away. But that's no reason to quit! Are we not manly manly readers of books?

I propose that we go with Thursday March 29 to discuss "The Big Year" by Mark Obmascik. It's a quick read and better than the movie. I may get a few first-timers to show (one co-worker, one new neighbor, and one college buddy).

  1. I'm sitting here trying to figure out how I could participate... If I download the book onto the Kindle, then wake up at 2AM... Too bad.

It looks like it could be a fun read. I thought it was interesting to see this review on Amazon:

"...I know one of the characters, Greg Miller,... So perhaps my enthusiasm is a little overblown, but not by much. ... Greg Miller's story is especially compelling. He has the smallest budget, the least free time, and is out of shape physically and emotionally... A fun read for birders and non birders too. "

I wonder if they're still on speaking terms. :)

  2. I'm in! I read it in four days and rather enjoyed it. Plus I've rather missed the book club (not to mention your input Myles....how are things going in Germany?)

    1. We're doing well. Sorry for the slow reply...

We're feeling integrated in the ward. It's small, even for a foreign ward, so there's a lot to be done. Christie taught her first lesson and has given a couple of talks in German. She's been a good sport.

I love coming home with something different every time I visit the store. The last time it was Danish soft cheese with "red rind and white mold" Somehow that sounds less disgusting in German :) My girls aren't usually as fond of trying the "fun" things I bring home, but they've been good about at least taking a bite. There have been things they've liked, too.

Work/school is good. I'm juggling more projects and working with more people. It's good for me. I share an office with a Frenchman, so I speak mostly English at work. My girls' pronunciation is much more native-sounding than mine is. They've done really well.

I got a really blank look from someone who told me he liked to read when I asked if he was interested in a book club. Oh well. I guess I'll have to wait 'til I'm back :)

Until then I'll just lurk and live vicariously through the blog.
